Lanzarote – Island Of Dreams

So where do you go for that ultimate European vacation that not only combines excellent weather and fantastic beaches, but also adds the charm of local culture to make your holiday all the more memorable. The Canary Islands have been attracting tourists from around the globe for decades and particularly those from European destinations, and the relatively short flight times to this group of islands make it ideal for travellers that are looking for a sun kissed destination, but do not necessarily want to spend 10 hours or more on their flight.

Over the last decade more and more independent travellers have started to visit Lanzarote, a result of the growth of the internet and the trend to browse and book holidays online.

Lanzarote´s major sporting event is the Iron Man contest – which is held every May and which is widely regarded as one of the toughest triathlons in the world. And rightly so – as competitors are asked to complete a gruelling course comprising a 3km swim, 180km bike ride and then a full marathon in temperatures that are often in the 30´s. With 60 out of the 1000 strong field winning a coveted slot in the Iron Man grand final which takes place every year in Hawaii.

Whilst there is an excellent choice of apartments on the island families may prefer the more comfortable and spacious alternative of a villa in Lanzarote. A wide choice of this type of property is available to rent and many come with great extra features, such as Jacuzzis and air conditioning. Fully equipped kitchens come as standard as well allowing more elaborate dining to be an integral part of the holiday.

Playa Blanca has long been the gateway to the island of Fuerteventura and enjoys some of the best weather on the island due to its southern location. The resort is also especially popular with tourists who like to book their own holidays online. Offering plenty of self catering options and some of the most luxurious villas in Lanzarote even the most discerning travellers are well catered for.

Puerto del Carmen is also an ideal location for all types of holiday makers if you have yet to make your choice. As the resort is perfect for families with young children. Whilst also offering lots of child friendly attractions such as the Rancho Texas Theme Park – which offers kids an abundance of Wild West themed fun and games.

Formerly known as La Tiñosa Puerto del Carmen emerged to become Lanzarote´s leading resort during the package holiday boom years of the 1970´s. And is still the most popular destination on the island today. 

Lanzarote can be enjoyed as a holiday destination at any time of the year. But some months are better than others with the most unreliable weather usually experienced during February and March, although the climate is still mild even then.
